The color scheme for the images is derived from the 85 GHz vertical,
horizontal and 19 GHz vertical channels in red, green and blue respectively
(through RGB composite). Each channel is inverted, so that warm temperatures
appear dark, and cold temperatures appear light. In addition, to enhance the
scattering signatures, a PCT is added to the temperatures to accentuate
these regions. Therefore, probable rainfall (and snow) appear as the
yellow and white areas (the white being most intense), with the oceans
areas varying from light blue (low water vapour) to dark blue (high water
vapour).
In addition, equatorial crossing times and (TMI) orbit numbers are also
included. To read these correctly, find your area of interest and follow
that orbit to the equator (by the shortest route), then drop down to the
time and the orbit number (the time is GMT, not local).
