2005 ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON PROVIDED COPIOUS RAINFALL
The TRMM-based, near-real time Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis (MPA) at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center provides estimates of rainfall over the global Tropics. MPA rainfall contributed by the record breaking number of 2005 Atlantic tropical cyclones is shown above. Tropical cyclone rainfall alone accounted for an average of over 32 inches of rain in some areas of the Gulf Of Mexico. The tracks of 2005 Atlantic tropical cyclones are overlaid in black. The rainfall from hurricane Vince which occurred in the extreme Eastern Atlantic is not shown.

TRMM is a joint mission between NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
