KROSA HITS TAIWAN AND SOUTHEAST CHINA

Link to image of typhoon krosa Powerful Typhoon KROSA hit Taiwan on October 6, 2007 causing the deaths of at least four people, serious flooding and extensive damage to buildings. The image on the right was made from TRMM satellite data that was captured on 5 September 2007 at 0118 UTC when as a super typhoon KROSA was headed toward Taiwan with wind speeds of over 130 knots (145 miles per hour). Rain rates in the center of the satellite swath are based on the TRMM Precipitation Radar (PR), and those in the outer swath on the TRMM Microwave Imager(TMI). The rain rates are overlaid on infrared (IR) data from the TRMM Visible Infrared Scanner (VIRS). KROSA weakened but caused torrential rainfall resulting in flooding and mudslides along the southeastern China coast.
