TYPHOON MAN-YI HEADS TOWARD JAPAN
The image on the right was made from data captured by
the TRMM satellite over the western Pacific Ocean on July 10, 2007 at 1944UTC after tropical storm
MAN-YI became a typhoon. Typhoon MAN-YI was headed toward Japan when
those data used for this image were received. The image inset on
the lower right was made using
TRMM Precipitation Radar
data captured at the same time
and shows the 3-D vertical
structure of the storm. The
range of colors in the inset
shows the height and intensity of features in the storm. One
thunderstorm tower near the center of the strengthening typhoon was about 17km high. CLICK HERE to see the latest TRMM image of typhoons in the western Pacific.
