Tornadoes Set a Record

The numerous tornadoes that tore through the middle of the United States during the first week of May 2003 set a record for the most active week of tornadoes. Nearly 300 tornadoes were reported during the first 10 days of May 2003. This was about 100 more than the previous record set in 1999.
