TROPICAL CYLONE PHET DRENCHING EASTERN OMAN
The TRMM satellite again passed over tropical cyclone PHET
on 3 June 2010 at 1716 UTC. PHET was weakening but
still powerful with wind speeds estimated to be over
90 knots (~104 mph). The TRMM rainfall analysis on the right was derived
from the Precipitation Radar (PR) and TRMM Microwave Imager
(TMI) instruments and indicates that PHET was dropping
moderate to heavy rainfall along Oman's eastern coast.
PHET is forecast to weaken as it heads
toward Pakistan over the next few days.

POWERFUL TROPICAL CYCLONE IN THE ARABIAN SEA
The TRMM satellite traveled almost directly above a powerful
tropical cyclone called PHET in the Arabian Sea on 2 June 2010 at 0140 UTC.
The on the right used data from this TRMM pass and shows that
numerous powerful thunderstorms were imbedded in PHET's well defined eye wall.
They were producing very heavy rainfall of over 50 mm/hr (~2 inches).
Forecast positions are shown in this image.
PHET is forecast to intensify to a dangerous category 5 tropical cyclone before hitting eastern OMAN tomorrow.
