The purpose of this web site is to inform the interested science user about TRMM field campaign (FC) TEFLUN-B (1998), LBA (1999), and KWAJEX(1999) sounding data sets. During the Field Campaigns Vaisala, VIZ and Meteorological Sounding Systems (MSS) radiosondes were deployed for measurement of atmospheric passive quantities and wind information. The user can determine data set availability from the sounding inventory organized according to campaign. Data development is done (currently under progress) by adopting a quality control (QC) procedure. QC tasks have been identified, and a strategy for achievement of the QC goals has been fixed. This procedure involves a three level process. The Level 1 procedure is a listing of the sounding inventory, sounding clean-up, and visualization. Level 2 efforts involve sounding analyses to identify and characterize types of error, and the Level 3 procedure will entail sounding repair. The current status of these QC efforts is shown here..

A description of the campaign soundings networks is explained in the soundings systems primer, including surface observations for sonde baselining. The problems identified with TEFLUN-B, KWAJ and LBA soundings thus far, and some examples of the many products that are generated during Level 2 processing (mean profiles, height-time sections, bulk statistics, etc.) are shown here as they become available.

An effort was made to understand the Environmental Characteristics of Convective Systems During the TRMM LBA. These results were communicated as a research paper to Monthly Weather Review Journal. A copy of the manuscript of this paper is available on-line, and also a print version is available
